Where do you write your blog posts? One day Wordpress “ate” one of mine & since then I started composing in Word because it seemed more friendly. I add links & format it there, then just do one big copy & paste in to Wordpress.
Auntie Pea was raving about Windows Live Writer, so I thought I’d give it a whirl. And I must say that I’m quite impressed! After playing with it today, there is so much to share!
Here are the features:
- Very easy to install & set up with your blog (uses blog URL, username & password)
- Write posts offline
- Drafts can sit on your computer
- Software learns the blog’s format, so the preview appears just as it would online
- Synchronizes with your blog & allows you to have up to the last 500 posts on your computer
- Overall allows easy management of drafts & publishing
- The coolest thing is that you can manage multiple blogs!
Extra touches of interest:
- More text options like text sizes, various fonts, font colors, etc!
- Plug-ins are available & more will be coming that are specific to blogging platforms
- yep, I added the smileys
(both msn & Yahoo) - as I add more I will blog about any that are particularly useful (like the must have smileys!). There are presently 3 pages & I’m sure that will grow.
- yep, I added the smileys
This is going to be one very useful & powerful tool! I’ll blog about it again after I’ve used it for awhile. If you try it, let me know what you think & what features you find helpful?
Evernote 2.0 a Great Organizational Tool
Evernote 2.0 has become my choice for organizers. I tried Google notebook but I wasn’t consistent with it (and you know how that goes – or doesn’t go I should say!).
- It’s a powerful FREE program!
- Copy & paste notes in
- Deleted notes can be retrieved
- Very intuitive – right click on most anything for options
- Can easily change dates of notes
- Making them more prominent
- Or into the future
- Click & drag URL’s in from the address bar & they remain clickable!
- Click & drag images in & a clickable link to their origin is created
- This is very handy for digishopping ideas

For cataloging your notes
- Premade categories like To-Do are offered
- Can make your own categories
- Assign multiple categories to one entry
- Add a cute icon for each category
- Clicking on the category brings up only those notes

Organizing software for our Mac friends
Are you a Mac user & looking for image organizing software?
GraphicConverter was recommended by Mac users.
I’ve never used it, but in reading about the features it sounds like it has many similarities to the functionalities that we love about ACDSee Photo Manager. I see that it imports RAW pictures.

Please let us know if you are familiar with it, or how it works if you try it.
DigiScrapInfo.com’s blog categories reorganized
After almost 100 posts, it was time to make sure that our categories were easy for our readers to find previous posts. So I spent some time reorganizing.
I’m sharing how I did it for two reasons:
1) maybe it will be helpful to others needing to do the same
2) to help our regular blog readers find older blog posts (A well organized list of categories is very helpful to a regular reader looking for information & also to newcomers who want to browse the blog to see if there is information of value to them.)
To do it, I went into WordPress’ presenation tab & edited the categories. Then I went thru each post & assigned the ones that fit my categories. For some categories, I simply renamed them (then the posts were just reassigned to that new category). My plan going forward is to try to review the posts after every 10 new ones or so. Then it will be easy to keep up.
The revised categories can be seen on the right column as a tag cloud. Digiscrapping is the largest in size because there are the most posts filed under that category. I added ‘Marketing Blogs’ & ‘Marketing Websites’ as well as Computer Maintenance. I hope these are helpful to our readers!
If you click on a category, all of the blog posts assigned to that will be brought up. So, if you clicked on ‘Marketing Blogs’ you would get this post as well as my blog series.
The tag cloud can also be displayed as a list. Heidi & I are having a debate which is better? Do you like the tag cloud? Do you use it? Or would a list be easier to find things in?
Let us know, we’d love to hear your ideas!
Another Organizing Style by Jessica Sprague
Another set of categories has been released at our site. These come from Jessica Sprague. She is a contributing editor to Creating Keepsakes magazine and is a hybrid scrapbooker (using both digital and paper products.) Jessica’s Blog Her comment about ACDSee and her categories:
“This was a lot of fun!
My categories are actually pretty basic - I don’t mind scrolling through a list of 100 brown papers, for example, to find just the right one. But what blows me away is how much BETTER this is than any paper scrap organization system possible - you never have to say to yourself, “Well, this one has more blue in it than red, so I guess it better go with the reds”. I can put it in both. :)”

An Organization Solution for Disks
I’ve seen a number of people comment that they burn disks for backups or image storage, but then have trouble with them getting scratched, misplaced, etc. So the question is - how to keep track of them all?
There are many items available for disk storage - but my favorite is this Hanging File Disk Storage. We have 5 at my house.
This hold CD’s & DVD’s in double sided hanging file folder type sleeves & maximizes space. Each box holds 120 disks! There’s a push button to open each drawer. And the units stack nicely. The dimensions are 6.75″ (h) x 13.4″ (w) x 7.7″ (d). They can be purchased here at J & R Music World (a great source for blank disks too!).

Update to deleting the thumbs.db files
I always forget about all these little options. While searching for thumbs.db files,
Unclick this option if it is checked.:

Ever wonder about those thumbs.db files or .DS_Store files? Do you need them in ACDSee Photo Manager?
Ever wonder about those thumbs.db files or .DS_Store files? Do you need them?
Here is a help explaining what the thumbs.db files are and how to stop them from being created in the future. And no, you do not need these files so they are safe to delete. I deleted my thumbs.db files and got back 100+MB of space!
Here is a quick way to get rid of them using ACDSee Photo Manager. (Searching like this in windows explorer will work too.)
- go to View | Search to get the Search Pane

- In the Search for files or folders named: box, enter “thumbs.db”
- Unclick this option if it is checked.:

- Select Specific folders and categories
- Under the box labeled In any of the following folders:, click on Add…
- Select your top level folder that contains all your digital kits and click OK
- Click on the right arrow
- check Include subfolders
- uncheck Search cataloged items only.
- Click Start
- After the search is complete, select all files by CTRL-A (or Edit | Select All)
- After selecting them, look in the very bottom left hand corner. It will tell you how many files are selected and the size of all those files afterward. The size of all those files is the amount of disk space you get back after deleting all those pesky files!
- Hit the delete key (or Edit | Delete)
- Confirm that you want to delete by selecting Yes
If you wish:
- Repeat for .DS_Store files if you are on Windows. See this help for more info on .DS_Store files.
- If you used Picassa AND you are NO longer using it, you can delete picassa.ini files. See this help for more info on picassa.ini files.
quick update
For those of you that get our blog emailed to you, I updated a link in my last blog entry. (That cut & paste got the better of me.) Here is the correct link for the last blog posting:

For those of you that read the blog here, I have fixed the link in the blog entry.
Sorry about the bad link.
