Selecting Folders & Subfolders in ACDSee Photo Manager

September 1st, 2007 by Heidi

A fellow user over on the ACDSee Public forum, shared this tip with me. This tip is used in the Folders Pane inside ACDSee Photo Manager to quickly expand out all the folders & subfolders and select all the folders & subfolders very quickly. Enjoy!

In the Folders Pane, click on the folder you wish to expand.

On your number pad, press the * key for how many levels of subfolders you have. In my example I pressed it twice. If you press the * key more times than necessary, nothing happens. Now I have all my folders expanded out.

Now to select all of them, hold down the Shift key and select the last folder. It will select all the folders in between the first and last folder. If you want specific multiple folders, hold down the Ctrl key and select individual folders one at a time.

To easily de-select the folders, just select another folder outside the range of selected folders.

Why is this useful?

  • I have often wanted to do this when assigning my designer name to the author field and want to select all their images at one time.
  • To see what is unassigned in a specific folder and its subfolders.
    • Change Filter By to Uncategorized
    • Do the above selection for a folder & subfolder.
    • Hint: To get rid of the the folders, change Group By to File Type and then click on the little arrows next to each file type to expand/contract each type:

    • When done, remember to change your Filter By back to All otherwise you might think images have disappeared!
