Not updated yet for Photo Editor 2008, but most functionality is applicable.
Straight Text
Click the Text Tool.
When
you click on your layout, a new layer forms. Your text object will
begin at the blinking line cursor. If this is not where you want the
text to be, you will be able to move your text after you are done
typing.
Type the desired word, phrase, or sentence. Press Enter to create a new line or paragraph.
Press Esc when you have finished typing. You will see a blue frame around the text object.
Then, position the text where you want it to be.
Press Enter to deselect the text.
If you wish to further edit the text, click on the text object to reselect it.
Text on a Path
Follow the steps to do Straight Text.
Click the Selection Tool and click a text object
Select the path style that you want to wrap the text.
Increase the Pen Size to display the path. If you do not want to see the path, make sure the pen size it set to 0.
Click OK.
Once your path is created, you can resize, skew, or move the text object. To do this, use the Selection Tool to select the text object.
When
the selection box appears, click and drag the corners of the bounding
box to resize, or the middle points to skew it. Click and drag the
center of the box to move the text elsewhere on your layout. Use the Rotate/Skew Button to alter the text object in that way.
Journaling
The easiest way to create a journaling box is to type Text in a Shape.
Click the Selection Tool and click a text object.
Follow the steps for typing Straight Text. Type in the first word of your journaling
Click on the Selection Tool (arrow) and click on your text.
In the Properties Bar, click the Shape button. Select the shape in which you want to wrap the text.
Don't worry about the bubble shapes. Set the Pen Size to 0 and the shape will not appear. Or if you choose, increase the Pen Size to make the shape outline bolder.
Resize the text box to the size you want.
Click in the box and add the rest of your journaling.
Click OK.

Using the Color Picker for Font Colors
You
can change text color by clicking the text color picker in the Main
toolbar and selecting a new color from the Colors dialog box.
Changing Font, Style and Size
You can change the font from Arial to any other font available on your computer system.
You can change the text weight from regular to bold or italic.
You can select a text size from 6 point to 72 point. You can also type a specific text size into this text box.
Using Text Justifications in Journaling.
If you added text using the Text Tool, you can use the Horizontal Align Tool to left-align, center, right-align, or justify text.
Changing Opacity of Text
For
some layouts you may wish to change the opacity of text to achieve
different looks. Select the layer that your text is on, and use the
Opacity Slider to adjust the level of opacity.

You can also change the horizontal spacing between characters and the
vertical spacing between lines. For example, you may want to reduce the
horizontal spacing between characters to make them look squeezed
together.
AA: You may also want to reduce the vertical spacing between lines to bring them closer together.
